Widow's Application for Confederate Pension

Note: She had to complete 6 of these same forms before she was approved.  Answers are in Capital letters, if answers were different on separate forms it is noted in parenthesis.

I, Mrs MARY DEHART, do hereby make application for a pension pursuant to the provisions of Articles 6204 to 6227, inclusive, of the Revised Civil Statutes of 1925 as amended by S. B. No. 27, passed by the Forty-first Legislature at its Fifth Called Session and all other laws of the State relating hereto.

I am a widow of T. A. DEHART, deceased, who departed this life on the 21ST day of JUNE A.D.  1930 in the County of HILL in the State of TEXAS

I have not remarried since the death of my said husband; and I do solemnly swear that I was never divorced from my said husband THE SAID T. A. DEHART and that I never voluntarily abbandoned him during his life but remained his true, faithful, and lawful wife up to the date of his death.  I was married to him on the 30TH day of NOVEMBER A.D. 1904, In the county of BRYAN, BRAZOS, in the State of TEXAS

My husband the said T. A. DEHART, served as a Confederate soldier (or sailor) in the war between the States of the United States; or (that he was a soldier who under special laws of the State of Texas during the said war, served in organizations for the protection of the frontier against Indian raiders or Mexican marauders);  or (that he was a soldier of the militia od the State of Texas who was in active service during said war.)  That my said husband served honorably from the date of his enlistment until the close of the war, (or until he was discharged or paroled in some military organization regularly mustered into the army or nav of the Confederate States until surrender).  He was honorably discharged or paroled  SEE PENSION NUMBER 13229 (GRENADA, MISSISSIPPI, MAY 18TH, 1865, SERVED FULL TIME)

That I have been a bona fide resident of this State continuously since the 29TH day of MARCH A.D. 1881. (1ST day of SEPTEMBER, A.D. 1922)

AFFIDAVIT OF WITNESS

I lived neighbors to the DeHarts during the war of 1863.  I was 13 years old when the war broke up and know of my own knowledge that Thomas A. DeHart did serve in the Arm as stated in the application.

I knew Thomas A Dehart during his lifetime from service in the Army until his death, knew of his marriage and have know Mrs. DeHart continuously and further that the statements made by Mrs. DeHart in this application regarding the services of Thomas A DeHart in the Civil War are correct.  I am now 84 years old.

Dear Sir,

Mrs. Thomas A DeHart, a pensioner, died January 5, 1961 at Meridian, Texas.  Her son, Frank DeHart, who made her funeral arrangements has asked that we notify you of her death and request the form to be filed to receive the death benefit.  If you will send this to us, we shall be glad to assist him with its completion and return to you.
